Kenneth Pugmire, a branding and graphic design expert, was the featured guest on Influencers Radio with Jack Mize. He shared how he has combined his graphic art expertise and experience with direct response advertising with the end result of branding his clients to be seen as elite celebrities and experts.
Pugmire has been interested in design and branding most of his life. According to Pugmire, “One of the challenges is that there are a lot of people who have extraordinary expertise. No matter how good you are, you have to be able to sell yourself. And if your brand, if your image of yourself is true to who you are and you’re your own person, you don’t have any competition.
So that’s what I like to do with people. Take who they are, but still create the image of what they want to be because that’s where they have their own space in the marketplace. They create their own character. There’s nobody else that can take that away. There’s nobody else that can compete with that.”
Initially, Pugmire decided to brand himself to grow his direct response advertising business. Much to his surprise, he found himself inundated with requests from others that wanted him to brand them also. These business people understood the power of being the lead celebrity in their market, in their niche.
The results that his unique branding style brings to his clients are instant and dramatic. When he takes someone with tremendous skills, who has a generic personality brand, and he brands them and what they do, it makes it easier psychologically for people to choose them.
Pugmire explains, “You can look at any brand who’s established themselves and it’s quite simple. It’s trust. When people have a problem, when they’re looking for a solution, a lawyer, consultant, coach, income specialist, advertising specialist, whatever it is – they’re looking for the best because that’s the highest probability of getting the outcome they want.
The psychological factor needs to be really clear that, hey, I’m am expert. I am an authority. I’m a celebrity in what I do. I’m the best. And then it’s a lot of easier for people to make that decision. Within one to three seconds, people make a visual determining factor about a product, service or person. People make that decision if you’re someone they want to use.”
Years ago, Pugmire studied the psychology of placement and branding used in stores. He saw firsthand the difference in pricing that fancy packaging and “top shelf” placement could bring. Today, his clients see the same dramatic financial rewards when they are branded as an elite “top shelf” celebrity.
