Mountain Empire High School Redhawks Baseball Team Impress in Finals

The Mountain Empire High School Redhawks baseball team ended the 2017-2018 school year on a high note. The team finished the year with a 20-4 overall record and Mountain Empire made it to the Division 5 Championship game for the first time in nearly 40 years! Although the Redhawks lost the final game, the baseball team was 12-1 at home and accomplished three straight wins at the playoffs.

The Redhawks were led in their 2017-2018 victories by top hitters; senior Wyatt Mann who batted a .584 average, freshman Jacobe Noland at .506, and junior Ryan Sawyer at .495. Both Noland and Sawyer were also selected for first team all-league. Another asset to the 2017-2018 Redhawk baseball season was Trevor Elliott, arguably one of the best high school pitchers in San Diego County, who led all of California in strikeouts with 146 in addition to throwing 3 no-hitters. Elliott was also selected as Pitcher of the Year in the league. Redhawk standout junior Ian Estrada also batted an impressive .354 and was selected for the second team all-league.

The Redhawks baseball team is proud of its graduated seniors, Wyatt Mann who has gone on to play baseball at a junior college and Wyatt Aguilar who will be playing both football and baseball for Buena Vista University in Iowa. The Redhawks look forward to returning to the Division 5 Championship game next year. With the return of four all-league players, including now seniors Ryan Sawyer and Ian Estrada, the Redhawks baseball team will be in an excellent position to get into the playoffs again for the 2018-2019 season.
