Los Angeles, CA – September 11, 2018 –
BEYOND THE DOOR “seems to me easily the best of the Italian Exorcist copies, and not merely to an extent that damns with faint praise” – 1000 Misspent Hours.
TriCoast Entertainment’s horror label, DarkCoast is ready to unveil the spooky re-release of the 1974 Italian-American horror, BEYOND THE DOOR (aka Chi sei?), directed by Ovidio G. Assonitis (as O. Hellman), longtime celebrated producer for Tentacles (1977), Piranha Part Two: The Spawning (1981) and Choke Canyon (1986), and Robert Barrett, well known for his roles in Over the Line (1992), Alleyn Mysteries (1993) and receiver for Best Screenplay for The Heartbreak Kid (1993) at the Montréal World Film Festival.

With the film’s story and screenplay by Assonitis, Barrett and renowned horror writer, Antonio Troiso (Knife of Ice, The Designated Victim, Manic Mansion), BEYOND THE DOOR is horror history’s most frightening and blood-chilling drama of possession. “BEYOND THE DOOR” reminds us once again that, in some movies, at least, the devil’s work is never done,” wrote the New York Times, adding that BEYOND THE DOOR is a, “successor to the likes of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist.”
BEYOND THE DOOR is set in San Francisco following Jessica Barrett (Juliet Mills) who becomes possessed by a horrific demon during the pregnancy of her third child. But the mother to-be begins to exhibit demonic possession-like symptoms, like her head spinning a full 360 degrees or her projectile vomiting of pea soup. As Jessica’s life is dragged further into hell, her ex-lover Dmitri (Richard Johnson) shows up to save the day – but it seems he has evil plans of his own.
As Jessica’s demonic possession lives and grows, will Dimitri help her and save the day? Or is there something wicked inside of him too?
“The specials effects scenes involving Jessica Barrett’s demonic possession are all extremely well done, as they never come off looking cheap or tacky despite the films meager budget. The special effects for Beyond the Door were done by Wally Gentleman who also helped with the special effects for 2001: A Space Odyssey,” observed 10K Bullets.
As an Italian-American horror film, BEYOND THE DOOR was filmed in both San Francisco for exterior shots and in Italy for the interior shots at the Incir De Paolis Studios in Rome. BEYOND THE DOOR us noted for its unusual score (Franco Micalizzi) for a horror film with its reference to popular disco and funk music.
“Besides the films memorable score one most not overlook the films sound design which totally engulfs you as you watch the film. Even though there are many films not only from Italy but around the world that tried to rid on the coattails of The Exorcist. To lump in Beyond the Door with these other films is unfair since it is a tense and visually satisfying film about demonic possession that only has a few visual similarities to the aforementioned The Exorcist,” continued 10K Bullets.
DarkCoast has exclusively re-released BEYOND THE DOOR to various online streaming platforms, including iTunes, Amazon, Fandango, Sling, Google Play, Vudu, Vimeo on Demand and Dish. Indulge on longtime favorite horror today: https://amzn.to/2oWwf5Y.
