THE FATAL CONTRACT is a Chinese thriller with murders, mysteries, and love stories, that evokes the troubled stories between the painters and their muses, since ancient times a source of inspiration for dramaturgy and directors.”

THE FATAL CONTRACT follows the owner of a bar and past artist, Tu La (Zhao Yan Guo Zhang), who struggles to find love after the death of his previous girlfriend, until meeting the beautiful, daring model and former mistress to several renowned Chinese painters, Bei Wei (Bai Ling), who can be found regularly sipping on his special Lycoris Blossom cocktail. But, “the story takes dark tones and an atmosphere of a dangerous gruesome trap” when Bei Wei and Tu La discover an electrocuted, mangled body of famous painter in a bathtub, becoming enthralled by the mysterious murder and desire to solve the crime.

“The story is immersed in empty or small spaces: an art gallery, a small bar, a meager police station, a white snowy landscape, a simple crematorium with a small urns cemetery.”

The dangerous twists and complications in search for the truth arise when Officer Li (Xuan Miao) suspects Bei Wei to be the murderous culprit, and with the encounter of the eerie art collector, Lv Li (Tao Hong), “who only buys paintings when the artist and model are closely linked together and hide secret and obscure stories.” But as Bei Wei and Tu La begin to dangerously uncover scandalous secrets and encounter sudden, thrilling plot twists, they discover something far more unimaginable. As a blossoming romance, “the dark painter to whom life has offered only and solely pain surprisingly finds again the passion and the romanticism thanks to Bei Wei.”

The longtime source of inspiration of dramaturgy and directors – or painters and their muses – THE FATAL CONTRACT allows this theme to be “developed in a contemporary time but is addressed in a key that offers many possibilities, in fact, it could be valid in any age or place.” Will you be able to solve this dark detective film?
