Los Angeles, CA – September 21, 2018 –
True inspiration comes with a price.
From Writer-Director John Burr (Boots, The Last Kill), DarkCoast presents the eight-time winning film MUSE – a twisted, haunted fairytale that combines elements of a psychological thriller, the supernatural and past Irish legends and mythological influences. “MUSE is a small gem of the current horror cinema, which uses blood, sex and art as the axis of its plot; a film that, like few others, dares to be explicit, that proposes a basic theme within the form of terror,” wrote Correcamara.

Shot entirely in 15 days, MUSE is a gripping, psychological thriller that ultimately examines how inspiration can be downfall of any great artist. Inside a gritty, DTLA loft is a lonely, struggling painter, Adam (Riley Egan), who longs for artistic inspiration and to become a successful artist. But, when Adam’s muse takes form in a glimmering, mystical and deadly spirit creature from Celtic lore, the Leannán Sí (Elle Evans), who is based upon the Gaelic legend of a mythical Celtic, she chooses Adam as her human lover to protect and seduce. The silently beautiful, yet extremely mysterious Leannán Sí allows Adam’s career to soar as he begins to fall into an obsession that turns into a violent nightmare when he realizes just how far she is willing to go to protect him. With an upside down moral compass, Adam is forced to choose between his morality or his muse – his success and inspiration.
“Everything was shot well and looked rich and detailed. Very high production value from the lighting to the sound design. Adam’s artist studio is so detaild, rich and beautifully lit that you can nearly smell the charcoal and oil paints and feel the canvas as he brushes over it. And the picturesque setting overlooking the LA skyline, framed with urban decay, really contributes to the overall atmosphere of the film,” beamed All Horror.
“This is (made by) someone who really values art, because the art that they use in this film, that’s created, that’s inspired by the muse, had to be created by someone and it’s beautiful. There is some beautiful lighting and (there are) some beautiful scenes and shots,” stated Vanessa Thompson on Gruesome Magazine’s recent podcast.
