Old World Tradition “Meats” New World Demand – How a family-owned company is changing the meat snack industry with its century-old recipes.
DiMario Foods is a brand as unprecedented as its product offerings, which currently include pork and chicken snack sticks—two previously unlikely options within the meat snack category. Their unique flavor profiles are inspired by the family’s traditional Italian recipes. With distinct flavors such as Garlic & Fennel and Rosemary Herb, the family-owned brand has established themselves as a trendsetting category contender. DiMario is known for being the first meat snack brand to introduce “rosemary” within a flavor profile, as well as a snack stick made of 100% pork.
Building on the momentum of an eventful year for the brand, the company is taking large steps outside of the Windy City and entering new territories. “We’ve spent a lot of time building our foundation throughout Chicago and the Midwest, but we’re expanding to both coasts,” explains co-owner Laura DeBartolo. DiMario Snack Sticks are primarily sold throughout several prominent, national chains, as well as through online retailers such as Amazon and Peapod. However, they’re continuing to broaden their reach nationally. Nick commented on their recent launch with Mr. Checkout as, “an invaluable opportunity to reach independent retailers and their customers.”
Nick and Laura are two of the five founders of DiMario Foods, and one might say they’re pretty comfortable with their business partners. The company is owned and operated by the DeBartolo family—a family of five from Chicago. Each family member plays a vital role in the business—from marketing to sales—they do it all.
The DeBartolo’s took their family tradition of curing soppressata (a cured dry sausage), which normally takes months to make, and modernized the process due to increased demand. DiMario Snack Sticks are the offspring of this Calabrian tradition in the DeBartolo household.
DiMario Snack Sticks are made using the same ingredients as the DeBartolo family’s soppressata. With up to 60 calories and 7g of protein, these all-natural and gluten-free snack sticks are a healthier alternative that appeal to both men and women alike. At a time when consumers are demanding “cleaner” labels, DiMario Foods is listening. “We pride ourselves on using absolutely no fillers and only natural ingredients, so the consumer can focus on snacking without worry,” says Laura.
