Century-Old Phage Viruses May Provide The Answer to Antibiotic Resistance
Renowned natural health company, Body Ecology, introduces a new bacteriophages product, EcoPhage, as an option to help fight antibiotic resistant bacterial infections

Los Angeles, CA – May 27, 2019 – The World Health Organization (WHO) has deemed antibiotic resistance one of the top 10 threats to global health. Certain bacteria and superbugs have morphed (or even mutated) over the years in order to evade the most common antibiotics designed to eradicate them. Recently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) conducted a screening testing bacterial resistance, which showed how people can carry superbugs without exhibiting symptoms, increasing the chances of spreading the harmful bacteria.

For those who want to protect their digestive system from harmful pathogens, renowned health and nutrition expert, Donna Gates, of Body Ecology has created a phages product designed to help prevent the harmful effects of bacterial infections, like E. coli, certain superbug infections, and in bacterial issues involving SIBO, candida, IBS, UTI recovery and leaky gut.

Containing a high quality combination of four of the most well-researched phages, bacteriophages like those in EcoPhage, exclusively attack gut pathogens and leave healthy gut flora completely in tact – cleaning up the gut, urinary tract and birth canal to restore order and promote a healthy immune system. In fact, research shows that the genome of the bacteriophage, T4, for example, has the genes to kill pathogenic E. coli.

Phages act quickly, and are shown to be effective against antibiotic-sensitive and antibiotic-resistant bacteria and disrupt bacterial biofilms that can disable treatment from occurring. Pioneered in Europe before the advent of antibiotics, bacteriophages, like EcoPhage, selectively target specific, harmful bacteria while leaving beneficial microbes to flourish. This is one of the most relevant tools to treat bad bacteria since the good bacteria in the gut naturally limits the growth of other harmful bacteria.

Unlike other prebiotics, the phages in EcoPhage work quite differently. As the phages kill the bad bacteria, they leave more room for the good bacteria to remain and colonize, and even encourage the growth of the most important bacteria like bifidus, lactobacillus, and the bacillus bacteria. When the bad bacteria explode, the nutrients inside the cell walls become food for the beneficial bacteria.

The phages travel into the small intestine and immediately recognize any pathogenic bacteria living that are not beneficial to the healthy microbiome. Attaching itself to the cell wall of the bad bacteria, it then penetrates its outer membrane, and injects its own DNA into the bacteria.

The phage virus comes alive at that point, eats some of the nutrients inside the bad bacteria and starts growing trillions of copies of itself. Many copies are reproduced that the bad bacteria swell up, and explode, spilling trillions of new viruses out into the bloodstream. These viruses then find other bad bacteria to infect, destroying them too. Basically, they interact with bacteria by destabilizing the cell-wall, preventing bacteria from growing anymore.

Phages are harmless to human cells and to non-targeted bacteria. This is what distinguishes them from antibiotics which can wipe out a healthy Inner Ecosystem (microbiome). Research indicates there are no known side effects or cross reactions with other medications when using phages.

“The bacteriophages in EcoPhage have the power to be an absolute game changer for those who suffer from certain illnesses where bacteria is resistant,” says Donna Gates, Founder of Body Ecology. “Scientists have known about phages for decades, but the widespread use of antibiotics took over. And now because antibiotic resistance is such a huge problem, and it takes years for new antibiotics to be created and approved, phages are becoming a critical tool in the fight against certain infections, particularly in emergency situations.”

Rising in the ranks of one of Body Ecology’s best selling products, fermented green drink, Vitality SuperGreen, EcoPhage has been very well received by Body Ecology customers.

EcoPhage is available online at https://shop.bodyecology.com/products/ecophage, and comes in a bottle of 60 vegetarian capsules for $29.95.

About Donna Gates

Donna Gates, M.Ed., ABAAHP, is the international best-selling author of The Body Ecology Diet: Recovering Your Health and Rebuilding Your Immunity and The Body Ecology Guide to Growing Younger: Anti-Aging Wisdom for Every Generation. For the last 25 years, she has been on a mission to change the way the world eats. Her first book, The Body Ecology Diet, introduced the world to a sugar-free, gluten-free, casein-free, and probiotic-rich diet and a way of life that is now followed by tens of thousands of people around the world. The Diet grew to popularity initially by word of mouth and all these years later, still stands the test of time.

In 1994, Donna introduced a powdered blend of stevia rebaudioside to the US and it has since become the safest and most popular natural sweeter in the world. She pioneered and championed foods like young coconut kefir and coconut oil, and coined the phrase “inner ecosystem” to describe the still undiscovered network of microbes in our gut, now called the “Microbiome.” She also began teaching about the long-forgotten health benefits of fermented foods to provide the diversity needed in a healthy gut.

Over the past 25 years, Donna has become one of the most respected authorities in the field of digestive health, diet, and nutrition. In 2013, she completed an Advanced Fellow with the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. Donna’s extensive research and dedication to learning helps her stay ahead of what’s coming in the field of health and nutrition. Her latest passion is nutritional genomics. She will soon launch a training program for practitioners that confirms that Body Ecology is a Gut Smart/Gene Smart way of life, and also has a new book coming out in late 2019/early 2020.
