Salt Lake City, Utah – “Humor is not often something we would expect in a post-apocalypse world,” said Utah actor and filmmaker Cal Nguyen, director and producer of the series Day Zero, by Altare Productions and streaming on Amazon Prime. “We portray the realities of the human condition, which includes humor.
“We have added Derek Boone (Hollow Point, Dead Trigger) to the cast, and his skills as an actor help us to do that very thing in a recently released new episode titled “Thrones and Dominions,” Nguyen added.
Nguyen is the writer, director, and producer for the award-winning television series Day Zero, which is filmed in Utah and streams on Amazon Prime. It is currently in season three, starring Shawn Stevens (Love Everlasting, Days of Our Lives) as Father John.
Day Zero takes place when the Earth has been mostly destroyed as a result of World War IV, which is regarded as “Day Zero.” Radiation and fallout from the global attacks affected most of those who survived, regressing them into a primitive-like state. Pockets of the unaffected are scattered across North America, with some hoping to rebuild while others take advantage of what’s left. The show is a product of the Altare Productions.
“With the episode Thrones and Dominions, I was trying to convey simultaneously a sense of sadness with a sense of laughter, using a new lovable character that has an edge to him, a sort of counter-bully who bullies, if you will,” explained Nguyen, adding “and this character is played by Derek Boone, who really has a great sense of timing, and simply pulls off the image perfectly, so I couldn’t be more blessed by his presence on set!”
“In addition, the supernatural elements continue to expand as well as the idea of hope in a hopeless world,” Nguyen explained.
Nguyen is a U.S. Air Force veteran. He has been a filmmaker since 2011, and an actor since 1999 working in Hollywood. His premiere hit TV series Day Zero has won over 100 film awards to include 6 Telly Awards. The show is currently available on Amazon Prime.
