A STORYBOOK THAT DESCENDS INTO CRONENBERGIAN MADNESS: ‘VIOLENCE VOYAGER’ STREAMS ON DIGITAL PLATFORMS

“VIOLENCE VOYAGER // DARKCOAST”
“VIOLENCE VOYAGER is unquestionably a weird ride but one that’s worth taking if only for the experience,” wrote Asian Cinema Film Club.

Los Angeles, CA – Oct 21, 2019 – DARKCOAST releases the most demented and brutal anime film of the year – ‘VIOLENCE VOYAGER’ – onto digital platforms today, Oct. 21: https://amzn.to/35LJTgy.

VIOLENCE VOYAGER – a strange and yet incredibly interesting horror animation film,” wrote Animated Observations.

From the innovative and unique animation style of writer/director Ujicha, who is best known for his first feature, The Burning Buddha Man, which incorporates the unique 2-D animation technique of “Gekimation”, VIOLENCE VOYAGER is his second feature employs the same technique with meticulous hand-painted paper cutouts, created in-camera effects with light and fluids.

“The painted cutouts lend everything a storybook quality, and as that storybook descends into Cronenbergian madness — complete with paper cutouts bleeding and vomiting and… other stuff — the obvious power of the medium to tell this kind of viscerally unsettling story becomes apparent,” wrote Signal Horizon.

Set in the present-day Japanese countryside, two friends, Bobby (Aoi Yûki) and Akkun (Shigeo Takahashi), set on an adventure to visit a friend on the other side of the mountain. Taking a shortcut, the friends soon stumble upon an amusement park called “Violence Voyager”. But when the friends are welcomed in the friendly owner, Koike, unsettling acts are unleashed. Consisting of Quentin Tarantino-esque blood squirts, acid attacks, and grotesque body dismemberment and mutation, the boys must work alongside the other children captured by the park to fend off a number of deadly attacks as they gradually learn the truth behind the facility.

“Its unflinching gore and disturbing imagery this is unquestionably a beautifully animated film with the Gekimation style really only making the film stand out further as it looks like a comic book brought to life,” wrote Asian Cinema Film Club.

DarkCoast has released VIOLENCE VOYAGER onto digital streaming platforms today, Oct. 21 (Amazon, DirecTV, FlixFling, VImeo on Demand, Vudu, FANDANGO and AT&T).
