Losing one’s hearing can be devastating for the person who it affects including those around them. Each year more than 48 million Americans report some degree of hearing loss, which is around 20 percent of the population. In the UK one in six people suffer from some form of hearing loss. Mike, one such person who suffered from hearing loss, talks to Honey Good (www.honeygood.com) about how his hearing was affected and how Cochlear Implants changed his life.
Mike saw his life change when he suffered from severe hearing loss. His life as he knew it changed and so did the world around him. With severe progressive hearing loss and hearing aids, which were no longer providing auditory correction, Mike feared alienation from his family and friends. Loneliness began setting in due to a lack of participation in gatherings and conversations because he could no longer hear properly. As he mentioned to Honey Good, he thought he would never be able to hear the world around him again. Then he discovered something that could change his life for the better.
Mike discovered Cochlear Implants. He was unaware that there was help out there that could benefit people just like him. After a great deal of research, and through speaking to family and friends he decided to take the next step and see if he was suitable. Mike found that he qualified for Cochlear Implants and went ahead with the procedure. Since the procedure took place Mike has regained his hearing and now feels like he has his life back.
