Some women are simply gifted with a large but firm backside. Other women simply do not have the genetics to support an ample yet firm rump. While trends will certainly come and go, right now those like Beyonce Knowles, Kim Kardashian, and Jennifer Lopez have the assets that many pine for. Now, buttock augmentation is more prevalent than ever before.
A new study from Brazil is now finding that women who have the procedure are more satisfied than ever with their new look. Of course, experts caution that buttocks-enhancement can come with risks, and having a truly qualified and practiced individual is the safest way to go. But that is no different than any other procedure.
The procedure itself involves removing excess fat where it is unwanted, and injecting/grafting that same fat into the parts of the buttocks that make it appear plump and luscious.
Good results create a look that “does not depend on a lot of fat infiltration,” said study leader Dr. Rodrigo Rosique, a plastic surgeon in Goiania, Brazil. Instead, the doctor says that combining the lipo and injection sides of the procedure effectively help to create the perfect look, and that look is often a personalized touch. It is not a one-size-fits-all procedure, after all.
“The degree of satisfaction is amazing, and it is overwhelming how the fat grafts [injections] really take into the patient’s’ buttocks,” said Rosique, a professor of plastic surgery at Federal University of Goias.
Nearly 60 women were followed up on in the Rosique study. Each woman was between the ages of 19 and 62, and had the procedure handled somewhere within 2010 to 2012. According to their reports, only one patient reported not feeling very satisfied. The lone patient had to handle an additional surgery six months following the initial procedure after reporting. Following the second surgery, that patient stated she was satisfied.
Weight change of over 10% had to be removed from the study, according to Rosique. “I took these patients out because the buttocks’ final volume could be affected by the weight change, misunderstanding if the volume enhancement was due to weight gain or the graft,” he explained.
There were no medical complications to report. “The sculpting can give a very pleasing result,” said Dr. David Reath, a Knoxville, Tenn., plastic surgeon who chairs the society’s public education committee. He was not involved in the Brazilian study.
