The M-Plan encourages desperate dieters to swap their typical lunch and dinner with a mushroom-centric dish, instead. Supposedly, the low-calorie, high protein food offers a raft of health benefits, but it may be no different in fat-burning ability than traditional methods of weight loss, especially those that dictate how many calories must be consumed.
Tanya Zuckerbrot, a registered dietician told ABC News that the M-Plan is simply a low-calorie diet, but with mushrooms. In fact, swapping a cheeseburger for a portabella burger will save a dieter around 173 calories. If a person does that for 14 days, as with the M-Plan, it will help a person lose weight.
Health and nutritionist broadcaster Jeannette Jackson highlighted at mushroom’s natural benefits, which improves bowel function, skin hair and nails from its rich sources of B vitamins, iron and zinc.
So, while the M-Plan does seem to work, it’s not really any different than a regular diet that swaps high calorie foods for low calorie foods. Zuckerbrot agreed with Jackson’s praise on mushrooms, because they do offer a wealth of benefits for people, but her complaints are rooted in the fact the some people believe mushrooms are the be-all-end-all way of losing weight, which is untrue.
