Garcinia Cambogia Reduces Insulin and Body Weight

Multiple clinical studies have shown garcinia extracts greatly contribute to fat loss

Indigenous to Africa, India and Malaysia, Garcinia Cambogia is a tropical fruit in the mangosteen family. The active constituent in garcinia is hydroxycitric acid, which has been shown in animal studies to reduce insulin output and body weight. This makes Garcinia Cambogia a promising application for the treatment of diabetes and obesity.

For centuries, garcinia has been used in Southeast Asia as a food condiment and healing herb. Traditionally, it has been used as carminative after meals to diminish bloating and gas as well as a treatment for bowel disorders and rheumatism. The active ingredient in Garcinia Cambogia, hydroxycitric acid, makes up 30 percent of the weight of the fruit.

According to several clinical trials published in peer-reviewed medical information provider Drugs.com, garcinia reduced LDL cholesterol, lipid levels, adipose tissue and body weight in animal studies. Many studies published on the website showed increases in levels of healthy HDL cholesterol and the oxidation of fats when the animals were given garcinia extracts as well as weight loss in humans. The clinical studies on humans also showed lowered triglycerides and LDL cholesterol levels.

Beneficial effects on gastric ulcers and reduced appetite were also attributed to dosages of garcinia extracts. Garcinia is thought to inhibit the synthesis of lipids, which cause glycogen to increase in the liver, sending a feeling of fullness to the brain. A 12-week clinical study published in the “Journal of International Medical Research” showed a significant difference in weight loss over their control group, with 85 percent of weight loss due to fat loss. To determine effective doses, the study called for research that is more extensive as the herb showed very promising results.

A recent animal study, entitled “Lipids in Health and Disease,” showed that when garcinia was fed to rats it lessened the damaging effects of high-sugar and high-fat diets. The study also proved that Garcinia Cambogia decreased oxidative stress in renal tissues, functioning as an antioxidant.
