His parents have sacrificed a lot to give him a life, to send him to college. And now they are gone. Russell Stevens seems to be responsible for it. So Ryan vows to find him and make him pay for such a tragic loss. The passing of his parents turns him into a man consumed by anger and filled with inner pain. The sense of revenge is far more painful than the sense of loss he experienced after the tragedy. But something is about to happen that will take him on a quite unexpected route. It is an encounter with another person, Kennedy, a woman running from her past and from abuse. What do they have in common and what happens when they meet each other? Answers had this reader thrilled.
The characters are deeply and humanly flawed. Each of the key characters has suffered trauma or loss. It is interesting to discover the path that the two embrace when they meet and the role played by a child in helping them find not only healing but purpose. The story is told from the points of view of the key characters and the shifts in narrative create a strong sense of suspense that kept me reading on. The story is well-plotted with great dialogues and apt descriptions of both scenes and the setting.
The psychological and emotional levels of conflict are so evident in the writing. Jordan Richbourg’s The Road to Easton is beautifully written and filled with powerful lessons on human nature. I particularly enjoyed the fact that people who are hurt can find healing when they begin to understand the pain of others. It is so human and realistic to the extent that readers can’t help but relate to the emotions of the key characters. This is an intelligently plotted and deftly written story that explores themes of grief, loss, revenge, and a journey towards healing. It is fast-paced and exciting to read.
