Located on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula in Western Asia, the Sultanate of Oman is not a country best-known for its influence on contemporary music around the world. However, thanks to Moroccan-born social media star Loay, global audiences are quickly learning to love the distinct Arabic-Western style that has become synonymous with his performances.
Striking A Chord With Modern Audiences
Despite not taking his singing seriously until 2015, the handsome 20-year-old has already accomplished a tremendous amount in his short career. He has seen many of his covers go viral on social media while his singing style has caused fans and other artists to draw comparisons between him and the likes Shaun Mendes and John Legend.
The singer, who also plays multiple instruments, has additionally supported many upcoming musicians through the online tuition courses he used to host – which have had to make way for big projects coming his way.
While perhaps best known for his cover songs, Loay is an accomplished singer-songwriter who plays the guitar and the Oud, which is a highly popular Arabic instrument. After finding online fame, the youngster is currently preparing to release his own work. He confirmed: “I’ll be releasing my first single in September, before releasing an album at the end of the year.
“I never thought that I had the ability to write or release my own music, but I wrote a song back in 2017 and gave a sneak peek to some people on social media – they loved it! It is actually the song that I will be releasing in September.”
Succeeding From Strange Situations
While the COVID-19 pandemic has put a temporary halt to his live performance career, which started in 2018, the savvy songwriter has made good use of the situation, stating: “People are mostly on their phones due to the lockdown. I am taking advantage of that by being consistent with my uploads on social media and taking requests and suggestions from people to grow my audience further and strengthen the bond.”
It’s not the first time that Loay’s creativity and willingness to put himself out there has paid dividends. He explains that his interest in learning to play the guitar was purely coincidental: “I bought the guitar back in 2015, solely to be used as décor in my bedroom. It was never my intention to play it, but I picked it up out of boredom and was shocked to find that I could learn to play the instrument in just two or three weeks.”
If you’re not familiar with his music yet, you should definitely check out his Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok profiles, as what you will find is sure to delight you. His voice is undoubtedly phenomenal, and he’s exceedingly talented, but what sets him apart on social media – in a world of short attention spans and instant gratification – is his ability to capture and draw his audience into each video.
He has a charming smile, sure to melt anyone’s heart as he sings about love – along with a cheeky, playful side that makes you unexpectedly laugh. It’s little wonder that strangers message him to ask whether or not he’d be interested in a relationship with them…
Thanks to his drive, attitude, and unique presence of blending Arabic tones with Western covers and inspired songwriting, Loay is truly one of Western Asia’s most promising young talents.
