Anita Lang, a top-tier interior designer based in Scottsdale, AZ has won her 100th Design Excellence award, including “Best of Show” at this weekend’s ASID awards gala. The award ceremony for the Arizona North chapter took place August 22nd via a virtual pre-recorded ceremony. The usual in-person gala was replaced with a digital version this year due to the current global health crisis. ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) is a leading design organization that is highly regarded in the industry, with chapters across the nation and total membership exceeding 13,500. The Arizona North chapter of ASID focuses on professional growth and promotes research and knowledge management in the industry, requiring members to adhere to a strict code of conduct and professionalism. The national organization also works at the state and federal levels of government to represent the interests of the interior design industry.
The submissions for the Design Excellence awards include images and written narrative for each category, and judging criteria includes presentation of design intent, design execution, and use of materials and color. These may include client goals, problem solving skills, and aesthetically pleasing design expressed through the furniture, finishes, lighting, flooring, architecture, and special features.
Lang, who has been professionally designing residential and commercial spaces since 1992, is no stranger to the distinction as this will be her fifth “Best of Show” award from the organization. Prior to this year’s show, she had received ninety-nine design awards from ASID over the course of her design career in Arizona. After this weekend’s additions, her grand total will now be 107. Her firm, IMI Design, focuses on luxury design projects with a strong emphasis on sustainability and integrity, working across the country and abroad. When asked about what has contributed to her success, Lang says, “I believe that beauty has a profound impact on the human spirit, so as I design a project, whether it is residential or hospitality, it is with this intention of elevating the day-to-day experiences of those I serve”. Her design philosophy includes consideration of vernacular, of architectural appropriateness, and a depth of design principles from proportion and scale to truthful materiality. Lang also owns a bespoke furnishings line, Design 528, which has made several appearances in her award-winning spaces, and has also been recognized by ASID in the element, furniture, and fixture categories. An involved community member, Lang is a board member for local arts organization Walter Hive, is an avid supporter of Scottsdale Arts, and has created her own non-profit, Inspire Foundation.
