The Big Apple has always been home to some of the most promising artists and aspiring creatives. Being a unique blend of multiple cultures and ethnicities, New York City has long brewed a culture of its own. One such example of this bicultural life is the young artist Kelly Huang, whose Chinese roots can be explored in her depictions. In her most recent work, Kelly Huang has created the characters of Niexeefamily. She’s also the art director of the Niexeefamily illustrations.
Being an interdisciplinary artist based in New York City, Kelly has created the Niexeefamily as a family of cartoon characters. With her Chinese roots, she aims to bridge the gap between eastern and western cultures by exploring the beauty between them. According to Kelly, “Visual language unites people through spontaneous cultural engagement.” She creates Niexeefamily characters to introduce the beauty of different cultures.
The first coming series of the Niexeefamily is called ‘Introducing Asian Culture’, which starts from the illustration of major sceneries with rich tradition in Asia. The family of cartoon characters offers a diverse, inclusive and welcoming perspective. According to the creator of these characters, they have been made to connect cultures around the world.
The Niexeefamily will introduce unique Asian sceneries through a series of illustrations with an ancient tone, something which has never been done before. Needless to say, with a warm and welcoming family of cartoon characters as this, the future definitely holds a lot of promise as to what further stories and cross-cultural references are to be explored by them.
