Submer becomes Platinum Member of the Open Compute Project

Submer is proud to announce another strategic milestone in the Company’s mission to enable sustainable innovation in the datacenter, HPC and hypescaler space.

Submer joined the Open Compute Project (OCP) in September 2018, and has actively participated in many OCP initiatives. Submer is currently a member of four different OCP workgroups:

  • Rack & Power Project, the first group to focus on rack standards that are designed for data centers, integrating the rack into the data center infrastructure.
  • Advanced Cooling Solutions, intended to “harmonize the supply chain, thus enabling delivery of building blocks for wider, quicker and easier adoption of liquid-cooled servers, storage and networking gear, and to create a community of collaborators for future advanced cooling solutions”.
  • Modular Data Center, focused on design and uses of modular solutions optimized for OCP hardware.
  • Data Center Facility, aimed at maximizing mechanical performance and thermal and electrical efficiency.

Submer’s presence in the four workgroups is tangible proof of the commitment to deliver constant contributions and innovations in the OCP space.

“We’re very excited to have Submer join as an OCP Platinum Member. Their participation in the Advanced Cooling Solutions (ACS) Project will be invaluable as ACS is one of our fastest growing areas within OCP.

“Submer’s commitment to OCP is also another example of how European firms continue to lead the way in contributing to open source communities.  I look forward to working with the team at Submer to accelerate the adoption of ACS OCP solutions.” – Steve Helvie – VP of Channel – Open Compute Project (OCP)

“We joined the Open Compute Project Community in September 2018. Then in 2019, at the OCP Global Summit in San Jose, CA, we launched the SmartPodX, the very first commercially available Immersion Cooling system based on OCP principles. Becoming a Platinum Member of the Open Compute Project is further confirmation of our dedication to the standards and principles of openness, innovation and sustainability that characterize the OCP Community and Submer.” – Daniel Pope, co-founder and CEO of Submer.

Submer will also be contributing to the OCP Community at the upcoming OCP Tech Week, from 9th to 13th November 2020. On Tuesday, 12th November at 1:00pm PDT, Scott Noteboom, CTO of Submer, will lead the presentation: Reference Design proposal for an OCP Blind-mate Network Backplane. Registration can be found here.

Submer was founded in 2015 by Daniel Pope and Pol Valls to make operating and constructing datacenters more sustainable and efficient. Submer helps enable datacenters that make sense through products, platforms, APIs, processes and installations that will move hyperscalers, colocation and huge industries to new levels of efficiency and innovation.

About the Open Compute Project Foundation

The Open Compute Project Foundation (OCP) was initiated in 2011 with a mission to apply the benefits of open source and open collaboration to hardware and rapidly increase the pace of innovation in, near and around the data center’s networking equipment, general purpose and GPU servers, storage devices and appliances, and scalable rack designs. OCP’s collaboration model is being applied beyond the data center, helping to advance the telecom industry & EDGE infrastructure.
