London – 11th November, 2020 – New British fitness brand PIVOT Fitness® today launches an exercise product that solves the fundamental barrier to home workouts: the need for good workout space.
The company has developed the PIVOT® Bed, which in a matter of seconds converts into a home gym. This clever design allows someone to pivot the bed up to a locked, stable and self-supporting position and get stuck straight into their workout using pull up and dip bars and a power rack built into the bedframe. The workout mat and any other equipment are stored in the free space under the bed.
Founder Colin Montgomery was frustrated by his lack of exercise space at home. He tried working out in the sitting room but was always squashed between pieces of furniture, afraid of breaking something. Meanwhile, his spare room sat empty, apart from the guest bed. He started sketching his idea and, using 3D modeling, he soon had a prototype for the PIVOT Bed.
“Space in many UK homes is at a premium and is often stated as the biggest hurdle to exercising at home. The PIVOT® Bed is a groundbreaking addition to this market”, said Colin Montgomery, Founder and CEO of PIVOT Fitness®. “Its convenience, coupled with a state-of-the-art design, means there are no more excuses to skipping a workout.”
Home gym equipment sales in the UK have spiked by 5813% during COVID-19 lockdowns, and by July 2020, gym weights sales surpassed 2019’s total. But with that comes clutter and storage issues.
“We’ve all seen what happens to unused, forgotten exercise equipment in the home. The PIVOT® Bed actually creates more space and eliminates clutter,” said David Middlemiss, Co-Founder of PIVOT Fitness®.
About the PIVOT® Bed design
The PIVOT® Bed is self-supported by a stable and strong steel base and does not need to be mounted to the floor or wall. It features a pull-up bar which can be set to heights between 1.7m and 2.3m, and doesn’t have any of the limitations of the narrow, low doorway-mounted pull-up bars that currently dominate the market. Additionally, PIVOT® Bed features dip bars that rotate outwards from the centre of the bed frame to facilitate a multitude of exercise options.
One of PIVOT® Bed’s most desirable features is the reclaimed floor space, which the user can opt to cover with a custom-fitted exercise mat, providing ample space to perform virtually any type of indoor exercise.
The PIVOT® Bed can be easily switched between its two positions in a matter of seconds, due to the strong gas struts which take the majority of the weight. For strength training enthusiasts, there’s an optional power rack module which installs onto the bottom of the bed frame, its twin arms pivoting outwards and giving the user the ability to perform any exercise they could in the gym using a power rack.
Power Rack: 75x50mm uprights are made from 3mm thick UK steel, laser cut with Westside hole spacing. A further pull-up bar is attached between the uprights, giving full height-adjustment. The rack add-on includes two steel J-cups, allowing the user to hang a standard Olympic barbell at any height for bench presses or squats, among a myriad of other possibilities.

About PIVOT Fitness®
PIVOT® is a British start-up based in London formed by Colin and Patricia Montgomery and their good friends David Middlemiss and Rob Feeley.
Conceptualised, designed and manufactured in the UK, PIVOT® was born from a desire to create a truly innovative British product that breathes new life and meaning into the concept of ‘home fitness’ while making home workouts truly accessible to all regardless of the size of bedroom or property.
Founder & CEO
Prior to founding PIVOT®, Colin spent 25 years delivering software projects for companies such as Clifford Chance, OpenTable, and McKinsey & Company. His last nine years were in various tech roles working with McKinsey Digital, doing everything from hands-on coding to CTO-level positions for client startups. These startups were formed by some of the world’s largest and most prestigious banks and corporations. Digital startup incubation and startup accelerators have been his main areas of expertise in recent years.
With a love for the road, and off-road, Colin has cycled the length of South America with David, and driven from London to Cape Town with Patricia on their honeymoon. An avid sports and fitness enthusiast, he still plays cricket and likes to keep fit – at home these days, of course.
Patricia has over 20 years of experience in content marketing with a career that began in the corporate and trust service sector in Gibraltar and Spain, organising HNWI events at The Sovereign Group. She later moved to Hong Kong where she continued in events for the Lan Kwai Fong Entertainments Group before creating advertorial content at Cathay Pacific Airways’ in-house agency and advertising arm, McCann-Erickson.
After moving back to London in 2012, she became a Partner at John Lewis & Partners and produced advertorial content for the online store’s Home and Fashion directorates.
In 2015, she began contracting at New Scotland Yard in a project that digitised the London Metropolitan Police Service, building a new website and online system that has enabled 9 million Londoners to report crimes online — at the time, the first of its kind in the UK and beyond.
From 2017 and prior to co-founding PIVOT Fitness®, Patricia launched and ran her own online sleep brand that she sold across six Amazon marketplaces and was lauded in the London Evening Standard, Gadget Flow, The Daily Mail, and HELLO! Magazine.
