November 30, 2020 – Marketing expert Iman Aghay is about to get a close shave to raise funds for renters facing eviction as he auctions his hair off as part of Shaveathon, the free, on-line fundraising event taking place Saturday, November 28.
By December 31st, the USA’s federal moratorium to protect renters ends and with it, an estimated 30 to 40 million Americans will be at risk of eviction because of the pandemic. Once the moratorium ends, these tenants will be liable for a massive amount of past bills, which may lead to landlords refusing to renew leases and filing for eviction, a move that leaves a black mark on the tenant’s rental history and severely cripples their ability to find housing in the future. Many landlords are also small business owners, depending on rental income for their day-to-day expenses.
“Due to lock downs, many people are about to get evicted or have their water, electricity or gas disconnected because they couldn’t pay the bill,” explains event co-producer, Iman Aghay. “So I’m shaving my head to keep the roof over their heads during this Holiday season.”
“Many people are behind on the rent or utilities, and a donation can make the difference between having a good winter and worrying about losing their homes or having their utilities shut off,” says Joey Nichols, founder of Uplift Your Life Inc., a 501(c) (3) organization and Shaveathon’s co-organizer.
All funds collected during Shaveathon will go directly to pay the utility companies and landlords of the families affected. During this four-hour event, a veritable Who’s Who of the digital marketing world, including course creators and even a TedX organizer, will be on hand to bid on Aghay’s hair and offer prizes.
