Winnipeg, Manitoba – Penn-co is a leader in the construction industry. Having been around for over 60 years, the company has continued to give back to communities, its customers and to employees, providing leading construction services as well as contributing to the growth of the communities that they work in. Focused on doing more, Penn-co has announced the launch of its Covid-19 Rapid Testing Facility.
Announcing the project, Rick Penner, VP Human Resources for Penn-co said: “The testing facility was originally set up to test and certify that Penn-co employees and contractors working on our projects in remote communities were Covid-19 free. This provides an added level of confidence and certainty for local residents of these communities. As much as we want to continue our projects, we understand that we needed to commit to protecting the health of community members in remote communities and also to ensure that they feel safe with our workers coming into their community. This is why this investment is an easy decision.” Especially those in the First Nation communities where many of its remote projects are located.
The Penn-co Construction Covid-19 Rapid Testing Clinic is one that has been fitted with the latest equipment that makes testing for the global pandemic-causing virus easier and faster. People who visit the clinic will find that it is equipped with multiple Precision Biomonitoring rapid RT-PCR testing machines which promise results in as fast as 2 hours. With these rapid result times, companies enjoy a better approach to keeping their employees safer while eliminating the possibility of community spread.
Eric Palud is the manager for Penn-co’s Covid-19 Rapid Testing Facility and says that all of its SARS-CoV-2 or COVID-19 testing is carried out by trained professionals. They work closely with companies to ensure that their workforce is free from the fast-spreading pandemic.
Volunteering more information regarding the test, Palud added: “Our test is a molecular in vitro diagnostic test that is based on widely used nucleic acid amplification technology. It is intended for the qualitative detection of RNA from SARS-COV-2 in nasopharyngeal, nasal, and oropharyngeal swab specimens and nasopharyngeal wash/aspirate or nasal aspirate specimens. The test detects two different SARS-CoV-2 genes and it is conveniently multiplexed together with our RNA Process Control (RPC) for RNA extraction and RT-PCR. Each reaction well of our test already contains lyophilized master mix, enzymes, and multiplexed primer/probes.”
Due to the high demand for quick turnaround Covid-19 testing, Penn-co has opened up their private services to other companies wanting access to quick and reliable Covid-19 testing as a way to keep their employees working on job sites.” Describing the operations of the clinic, Palud said: “Unfortunately, the clinic isn’t open to the general public, only to companies who have a service contract agreement for private COVID-19 rapid testing with Penn-co.”
