Many people dream of success in life, but not all of them make the cut. Those who do typically have one thing in common: a vision. A man with a vision will stop at nothing to achieve it, and that passion and dedication are exactly what brings them to the top. Adonis Williams is one such person. He knows what he is worth, what he can offer, and what he wants; and he has a running plan to go about working to achieve his goals.
Adonis Williams has specific plans to get to where he wants to be: first step, graduate with his undergraduate degree. Currently, the New York native is juggling his responsibilities as a scholar and an athlete, as a senior at Adelphi University and a player on the Men’s Basketball Team. As an NCAA athlete with a college basketball scholarship, he knows that the story of his journey to receiving the scholarship and his whole college experience is something that can inspire. He hopes to inspire the youth seeking scholarships and success in academics and sports, leading to his plan’s next step.
The second step is to author a book—specifically, an autobiography detailing his life. He transferred to Cardigan Mountain School in New Hampshire in 8th grade and The Brooks School in Massachusetts in 10th grade. The transition from his earlier life in public school had been challenging, and he will discuss that as well. In addition, he plans to include receiving his college scholarship and the hardships entailed by life as an athlete, including getting injuries and the lessons he learned from each of them.
Knowing that one can help people but not do anything about it shows the character of a person, and the fact that Adonis Williams is so keen on sharing his story to inspire and benefit the youth speaks of compassion. Inspiration and motivation are hard to come by, especially given the bleak outlook that the year 2020 instilled in people, making the scholar-athlete’s efforts to shine a ray of hope invaluable.
“I feel like I can change many lives,” he says, as he details how he mentors the younger members of the Boys Club of New York each break to mentally prepare them for the college preparatory school process, as well as how rewarding it had been. He never tires of sharing his story, especially when the listeners are so eager to listen and learn from his experiences, which brings us to the third step of his plan.
The third step of his path to success is establishing himself as a strength and conditioning coach at the collegiate level. As an athlete who benefited from coaches who imparted their knowledge to him, he hopes to do the same for the athletes that will come after him.
So far, these three steps are all he has in mind, but it will continue to expand as he grows and evolves. “If you have a goal in mind, do anything it takes in order to get what you want,” he tells his mentees. At times, it may entail sacrifice, but the end goal will be more than worth it.
