CINCINNATI, OH – Uprising, the superfood bakery offering keto-friendly and fiber-rich foods via subscription delivery service, announced today that it has closed on a $1.25 million investment round led by Trousdale Ventures and former US & Americas CEO for Dentsu Aegis, Nick Brien, along with financial support from prestigious food and beverage entrepreneurs including Hayden Slater from Pressed Juicery, Daina Trout from Health-Ade, and Rosie O’Neill and Josh Resnick from Sugarfina. The news was announced in tandem with the launch of its new low-carb Superfood Chips product line as well as its debut retail partnership with Meijer, Inc., an American supercenter chain throughout the Midwest.
Founded in March 2019 by former P&G executive William Schumacher alongside his sister Kate Schumacher and Blue Oven Bakery founders, Mark and Sara Frommeyer, the company’s mission is to reinvent food for the masses by serving the 117 million people suffering from chronic diseases related to poor nutrition and the debilitating side effects of poor gut health. Uprising’s clean ingredient foods are made without grains, denatured oils or preservatives, and are both keto and paleo-friendly, high in fiber and protein. Uprising is disrupting the $137 billion food staple market by producing familiar foods baked in entirely new ways, incorporating patented-pending methods combined with secret recipes and artisan techniques handed down over generations tracing back to Italy, to transform whole food ingredients.
Today Uprising is announcing the launch of their new Superfood Chips product line, which comes in two fiber and nutrient-rich varieties: Sea Salt and Savory Rye.
Both varieties of Superfood Chips are baked with nutrition-rich ingredients like almonds, flaxseed, egg whites, apple cider vinegar, MCT oil and olive oil, and are designed to foster gut-health, help lower bad cholesterol, tackle blood sugar issues and reduce cravings. The chips are available directly through Uprising’s website and, starting January 1, in 35 select Meijer supercenter locations throughout Michigan.
The brand’s recent expansion with Meijer marks a departure from its previous direct to consumer-only strategy. Uprising’s Co-Founder, William Schumacher, said of the expansion, “Our move into retail puts us one step closer to our mission of providing reinvented, reformulated nutrition to the masses in the form of healthy, supplement-like superfoods. We’re excited to partner with Meijer in this important next step for Uprising.”
The Superfood Chip follows Uprising’s original Superfood Cube, a keto-friendly bread, which has amassed nearly one-thousand five-star customer ratings. The Superfood Cube launched in 2019 to voracious demand, with customers waiting nearly three months for their first delivery.
Expressing his excitement for the new Superfood Chip, Uprising Co-Founder and Baker, Mark Frommeyer, said, “We are beyond thrilled to introduce our new Superfood Chips. The recipe is a result of years of experimentation to balance superfood ingredients that are all grain, dairy and soy-free, without compromising the flavor profile and crunch. We will not release a product until it meets every Uprising standard, so we’re excited to finally bring the product to the masses.”
“Uprising is a rockstar company taking on the bread, chip and broader food staple category, which are ripe for disruption,” said Daina Trout, CEO and Co-Founder of Health-Ade. “They’re producing foods that are foundational to a healthy lifestyle and feeling good long-term, but above all, taste good, which is what’s been lacking so long for people working to live a more sustainable healthy life.”
