The creation of JUNE Medical Sweden not only improves access to the company’s award-winning Galaxy II retractor for Swedish surgeons, it also offers new opportunities for collaborations and product development with leading figures in this trailblazing healthcare system.
Angela Spang, CEO of JUNE Medical, commented: “We are delighted to be bringing the international success of the Galaxy II to Swedish operating theatres, and look forward to delivering significant waste and cost savings across the Swedish healthcare system with our retractor. I’m personally looking forward to expanding our network of leading surgeons in my native Sweden, and am pleased to have secured Sweden as our new EU distribution base as a way of saying thank you for all the happy memories from my childhood.”
JUNE MEDICAL is also expanding its comprehensive portfolio of medical devices with the upcoming launch of its new pre-packed retractor kits especially for male procedures. Based on the company’s award-winning Galaxy II retractor, the Galaxy II Male kit brings the same level of innovation to male surgeries.
The Galaxy II Male kit is set to revolutionise male procedures by dramatically improving visualisation during surgery. This straightforward and easy to use kit is suitable for a wide range of procedures requiring optimal control over the surgical site, such as scrotal and associated surgeries, as well as prosthetic testicle implantations. The kit features a number of different accessories and a novel hammock elevation strap to manoeuvre the male anatomy, allowing the penis to be held securely without requiring hooks through the skin, improving patient comfort.
The kit also benefits from all of the characteristics that have made the Galaxy II system so popular. The retractor’s unique, design protected cam locks allow simple single-handed adjustment for rapid re-positioning, while the slots on the retractor ring easily secure the stays in place. Together with a range of stay hooks designed to enable high tension without the risk of tissue tearing, this system provides an innovative, cost-effective and convenient solution for a wide range of surgical procedures.
Angela Spang, CEO of JUNE Medical, commented: “The Galaxy II frees up the hands of assistants and nurses that often have to hold the retractor, sometimes for long periods of time. This improves efficiency and reduces the numbers of people needed in the operating room, which is especially useful during the COVID-19 pandemic to help reduce infection risk.”
JUNE Medical is an award winning medical device company with offices in UK, USA and Sweden, with both direct sales as well as distribution partner networks around the world. Established in 2013, the company has quickly made a name for itself as innovative, customer focused and patient centric. The flag ship product Galaxy II was launched in 2018 and has received global attention with it’s innovative cam lock solution, which turns the device into a modern version of old fashioned self-retaining ring retractors, and provides valuable assistance for surgeons. The light-weight yet strong device is manufactured in the UK, with the design and quality that comes with the British manufacturing standards well known for its industrial prowess.
The development of a Galaxy II Male kit has been in close collaboration with leading urology surgeons from University College Hospital in London UK and with inspiration from leading surgeons in associations such as EAU (European Urology Association) and ICS (International Continence Society). Initial feedback suggests that the unique design and combination of accessories that comes in the pre-packed, sterile kit is the perfect combination for surgeries like bulbous urethroplasties and penile implant surgeries, as well as incontinence procedures.
Next, JUNE Medical is working on launching the world’s first LED light for self-retaining ring retractors, with the aim to bring out an alternative to heavy and clunky headlights. As the covid pandemic has swept the globe, surgeons are struggling with their head mounted torches that now have to be positioned on top of full PPE, including visors that obstruct light and vision. The new solution in the pipeline allows for hands free directional light, in or close to tissue in the body.
