Claudia Walthing‘s We Live and Learn: “At A Life Pace” is a thought-provoking and emotional anthology in which a real-word poet shares her work with the world. By taking a unique look at the everyday events and occasions that punctuate her life, she opens the eyes of the reader to the world around them in a truly special way. To learn more about the woman behind the words we sat down for the afternoon to hear what she had to say and what her hopes are for the future.
“My idea was to use the second chance I had at life after dying for two minutes to give something back to the world. I knew that I had to do it in a way that allowed me to explore my passions, so I began to connect with poetry and write every single day. I used my son as a source of constant motivation and my faith in God as the driving force. By combining these two things in perfect harmony I was able to arrive at a place where I felt ready to share my work with a wider audience.”
A really fascinating way of looking at poetry, so why is the book coming out now?
“In a world where so much of what we used to take for granted has now been taken away, I thought that it was more important than ever to show people who read poetry that the little things in life can still be ever so special. Each piece that I’ve put in the book talks about a different aspect of everyday life, a different feeling, or just a different raw emotion that the ebbing and flowing of life brings to the surface. I hope that each piece will reach out and form a unique connection with anyone who reads it.”
And what does she want to achieve with her work in the near future?
“I want to continue to share my work with the world and show people from all walks of life that it’s the little things in life that matter. My faith in God, the love of my son, and the wonders of modern medicine have given me my life back, so I believe that if I can walk that path then anyone can. It’s about staying true to who you are and being confident and secure enough in yourself to go out there and show what you have to offer to the world. This book is my way of doing that and if it can change perspectives and lift people up along the way, I will know that it has been time well spent.”
