Delaware, USA – After getting into Meet The Drapers’ World’s Top 9 Startups list and reaching the semi-finals, the team at illumnus is looking to establish its tech-oriented learning platform as an authority in Education Technology with a crowdfunding campaign aimed at raising $107,000.
illumnus is a chat-based learning experience platform for K12 educational institutes that makes teaching centralized, simplified, and collaborative. The collaborative Learning Experience Platform (LXP) allows premier schools and universities to simplify the communication flow among students and teachers, even after school hours. The company has previously raised $140K from friends, family and some Dubai-based Angel investors but is currently raising more for expansion. Funding from this round is earmarked for setting up a front office in Dubai, hiring top technology and marketing talent, and scaling to 600+ schools.
Created by a team of academics, the aim of the platform is to change how education is imparted and experienced through modern technology, ultimately improving learning outcomes. The idea which was conceived by Akash Deep Singhal in 2012 as an IIT student in Bombay, came after he realized that education and schools were lagging behind, while the world was getting connected by tech. After years of research, Akash realized that the real problem behind online learning was that most parents and teachers are not tech-savvy enough to use complicated systems. He decided to build a Technology that does not feel like Technology. After much brainstorming, with communication and collaboration as the core, Akash and his team came up with one LXP, Illumnus, in 2018. The digital platform, built to be as simple as WhatsApp takes care of all your school’s learning needs. illumnus brings together all stakeholders: teachers, students, school administration, and parents on one platform.
With the understanding that not every teacher or student is a techie and need not be one, the platform allows for easy course mapping. This gives quick access to courses teachers are teaching or students are studying. Teachers and students can collaborate with each class being just like a WhatsApp group. Integrated with Zoom/Google Meet, with lecture recording and automatic attendance, Illumnus is enabled for live classes. Other features of the platform include online exams with auto-grading and performance analysis, daily homework with easy scheduling and grading, smart attendance, institute and personal library, direct messaging and notice board.
3 years in the market, serving 3 continents with over 30 satisfied clients and 15000 active users, the company is currently one of the World’s Top 9 Startups after getting into the Semi-Finals from Meet The Drapers. February 2021, Illumnus applied to the US-based start-up Reality Show called Meet The Drapers which is pretty similar to Shark Tank but judged by the Draper Family which had been early investors in companies like Tesla and Baidu. They reached the Semi-Finals and were offered support by Scott McNealy, Cofounder of Sun Microsystems (Creator of Java). From closing its biggest client in Dubai with 3300 students in 2019 to onboarding 26 clients with 12000+ users within 3 months in 2020 during the covid lockdown, Illumnus has had steady growth.
According to Akash Singhal, “Illumnus is the most promising EdTech/SaaS Startup by IITians, which is changing the way education is experienced in schools through Modern Technology. Until now, we have been working closely with a selected number of clients so as to reach the Product-Market Fit. While that has been achieved and because of lockdown in the world, there is an immense demand and with crowdfunding, we aim to expand globally and hire top talent from the industry to solidify our distribution and strengthen our product. We are evolving every day and ultimately aspire to be the only tech tool a school will ever need.”
