April 12, 2021 – Chicago, IL – MVP Global Media is thrilled to announce a new partnership with Chicago-based DIRRECTCONNECT Music Group, to produce an all-new sports themed music compilation that connects NFL fans to athletes off-the-field through a soundtrack to their life-changing experiences. The album entitled “DJ NFLA presents Draft Day” features original songs from recording artists, legendary NFL players and NFL Draftees. The project is set to be released during NFL Draft Weekend on April 20th as part of a global distribution deal with Sony’s owned distribution and services company, The Orchard.
Started in 2020, DIRRECTCONNECT Music Group, consists of producers, singer-songwriters, engineers and musicians spanning various genres. The company will leverage its deep connections to athletes and the urban music scene across major U.S. markets to provide content creation and management services for this unique entertainment album, as well as a future podcast and live stream events. This album is the first of a series of music projects that will spread to other professional sports associations including basketball, soccer, and baseball.
“Music and sports go beyond the field or the studio, and for many, hip-hop and professional athletes go hand-in-hand”, said Derrick Williams, principal of DIRRECTCONNECT Music Group. “Fans develop a deeper and more personal connection with their sports heroes when music is a common thread. We are creating an intentional platform so that both can coexist to showcase the natural intersection of music and sports.”
The new compilation marks the crossover in markets like never before, as sports and music are no longer viewed as separate worlds. Music is an art of storytelling and for many former professional athletes this is a way to mentor younger athletes through the universal language of music. Album appearances include 2021 NFL Draft Prospect Kelvin “Bossman Fat” Joseph, former NFL defensive back Johnnie Harris, Jargon of The Future Kingz and James Wrighter. One of the highlights on “Draft Day” will feature NFL legend Andre Rison, NFL Super Bowl Champion and 5X Pro-Bowler and super producers Buda da Future and Grandz Muzik. As one of the best wide receivers to ever play professional football, Rison’s passion for music is just as significant.
“I’ve always felt since I was a kid that music is life. Growing up in a family where my dad and uncles had garage bands, I would always go play with them. From that point on I was always driven by music. When I began playing sports at the age of 10, I would need that hype song before the game to get us going. It changed the game when they started letting hip-hop be played during nationally televised professional sporting events and to see pro athletes cross-over to make music was groundbreaking. As an athlete, most people expect you to just do that and I’m proud to be a part of a project that embraces the maturation of both,” said Andre Rison.
This charitable album, “Draft Day,” will benefit charities and social justice initiatives associated with Black Girls Break Bread, a non-for-profit advocacy group that focuses on the social and emotional wellness of Black women and girls; The Boys and Girls Club of America; and Building Dreams Foundation, an India-based non-for-profit organization that promotes the social development of disadvantaged children and communities.
