Loom Slippers, the sustainable slippers brand is now available in the USA. Using all-natural materials such as wool, cork and natural rubber, Loom pride themselves on providing comfortable and environmentally friendly house slippers – as opposed to substitutes created from man-made materials.
Looms were created after they realized that while there were some comfortable slippers on the market, they were often “unforgivably ugly” and not made from sustainable materials. This led to the creation of a slipper with three guiding principles at their core, those being “comfort, aesthetics and sustainability.” As Loom says “Comfort is always the number one thing everyone wants with a slipper – that’s just obvious. But we thought it didn’t need to stop there, we could use a design-led process to make them pleasing on the eye and easy on the environment as well.”
The materials for Looms have been sourced from around the globe. Most notably, the Australian shearling wool is described by Loom as being, amongst other things “ extremely soft”, “breathable”, “temperature regulating” and “odor-resistant”. In addition to this, Loom also uses natural rubber on the soles of its slippers. Natural rubber is harvested from the rubber tree and is a much more sustainable option compared with other synthetic alternatives that can often be manufactured from a crude oil base.
As well as providing a comfortable, good-looking and environmentally sustainable option, Loom also wants to promote a more relaxed and unplugged lifestyle. Loom notes, “while the pandemic has been an unmitigated disaster, if there is any silver lining it is that many people got to spend more time with their families than normally possible”. It is this return to a more stress-free, less digitally concentrated lifestyle that the brand seeks to promote in their customers’ lives in some small way.
As Loom observes, “in the modern era we all work too hard and we should all be putting our feet up more than we do – we just hope our product helps people to do just that!”
