Jul 9, 2021 – Over a million people in southeast Texas are considered to be food insecure. Since 1982, Houston Food Bank has worked to alleviate the issue by providing food and other essentials to those who lack consistent access to nutritious food across 18 counties. With the help of a network consisting of over 1,500 community partners, Houston Food Bank donates over 100 million meals each year to Texas families.
The Amaro Law Firm is honored to support the mission of the Houston Food Bank and everything they do for our local communities. For the last four years, we have participated in the Food from the Bar competition, a yearly month-long fundraising event organized by the Houston Bar Association (HBA). During the month of April, Houston’s legal community comes together to support Houston Food Bank with the battle against hunger.
When participating in Food from the Bar, contributors earn points by donating food, funding, and labor to the Houston Food Bank. This year, the campaign contributions totaled:
- 22 teams
- 378 volunteer hours
- 9,746 pounds of food and other essentials donated
- $231,311.11 raised
- 722,047 meals provided
We are honored to announce that the Amaro Law Firm Injury & Accident Lawyers came in first place in the food raiser category! Together, we were able to contribute 8,395 pounds of food and water out of the total 9,746 pounds collected! In 2018 and 2019, we also contributed more food than any other firm that participated, so we are thrilled to be able to keep this tradition alive. Last year we opted not to participate because of the COVID-19 pandemic, so this year we knew we needed to make up for it. Not only were we able to knock our food and water donation amount out of the park, but this milestone has now granted us access to the Gold Level Sponsorship group for the very first time.
Houston Food Bank has a 308,000 square foot facility in Houston that consists of a warehouse, kitchen, and conference center. They also provide programs and services to help Texas families achieve long-term stability–such as career training, health management, nutrition education, and helping to secure state-funded assistance.
If you would like to donate to their mission of closing the meal gap in southeast Texas, every $1 you give will help provide three meals to people who don’t have enough to eat. You can visit their website here to donate once or become a monthly donor. No donation is too small, and your gift will help provide nutritious meals to children, families, and seniors right here in our community. We appreciate your support.
