The Sister Duo Launches the Learn to Read Books Online Store Focused on Children’s Decodable Books.

Empowering teachers, parents, and children by tackling those pesky multi-letter phonograms.

The Sister Duo, Lisa Bell, and Nicole Cayer are the founders of Sisterly Love Publishing Inc., a Canadian publishing company. They will create and publish children’s decodable books and offer them through their online store, Learn to Read Books.

Bell, a registered teacher, noticed a gap in the marketplace while she was teaching her son how to read. Once her son learned the multi-letter phonograms sounds, he was finally excited to read. Unfortunately, Bell couldn’t find any decodable storybooks focused on these unique sounds.

Partnering with Cayer, an author, they will develop storybooks focused on these multi-letter phonograms. Each book series will have 5 books and twenty-five lessons directly relating to the story of the book to increase exposure.

Statistics show that 13.8% of Canadian Grade 10 students did not have the baseline level of reading skills needed to navigate in our society, according to a recent international study from the OECD. They did this assessment pre-pandemic, post-pandemic, this statistic will no doubt rise.

Building literacy skills in children is one of the most effective ways to ensure they can achieve their full potential in school and throughout life. Literacy opens doors to understanding, empathy, critical thinking, and the capacity for lifelong learning.
