“Common laser hair removal costs around $259 per session per area, and patients need around four to six sessions. Costs can go up to $5000 or more if patients want to remove all the unwanted hair on their bodies. This is where Kior comes into the picture,” says Roe Kinko, founder of Kior.
Roe says the Kior™ Laser Hair Removal machine can safely remove the hair with the excellent result well within budget.
The IPL hair removal machine emits a light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair. The light energy is converted to heat, which impairs the hair follicles that produce hairs.
“IPL laser hair removal machine works thanks to a pigment in hair called melanin. Much like a dark sheet on a hot day, the melanin helps the hair absorb the light from the flashes, stimulating it to go into its resting phase. This leaves you with smooth, hair-free skin,” says Roe.
The idea of coming up with an innovative device stemmed from the bad experience of Roe’s daughter at school, where her classmates bullied her for having hairy legs.
“She was only in fifth grade, but unlike the other kids her age, she chose to go to math camp rather than play outside or swim at the local pools. Though I didn’t know why at the time, this terrible bullying incident was about to make everything clear,” shares Roe.
That morning, Roe said some of the boys at camp found out that her daughter had hairy legs and had begun calling her “gorilla girl” over and over.
“As she explained the story to me, she said that this was why she’d decided on math camp. She could wear long sleeves and long pants without having to feel embarrassed, even though that meant sitting in a stale, smelly, hot room all day,” adds Roe.
Roe took her daughter to the store and bought her a waxing kit. Unfortunately, this proved too painful for her delicate skin.
Next, Roe tried shaving her legs, but she was inexperienced and cut herself often.
“As a father, it was so hard to watch. A girl this young should not have to go through such an ordeal,” Roe laments.
The incident fueled Roe to think about the kids who have been bullied at school due to something as insignificant as hairy legs, as well as girls who have cut their legs trying to shave away the shame of something that’s natural.
As a successful product engineer for a multi-national company, Roe has taken up the cudgels to design an ingenious device that works even on the most delicate skin.
“With any luck, the young boys and girls of the world will never have to suffer through what my daughter did,” asserts Roe.
In a review on the Kior website, Tristin Armstrong, one of its customers, said she has only used the IPL hair removal three times so far, and she can already tell the difference.
“It’s doing what it says it will and without a doubt going to save me money. On top of being on the more affordable end of hair removal devices, it’s really easy to use, comes with everything you need including the eye protection, not overly complicated and instructions that are actually great,” Tristin wrote in a review.
The Kior laser hair removal device uses a wavelength of 650nm that is longer than most devices on the market. Roe says it targets the hair effectively without hurting the skin.
