Atlanta, Georgia, USA – September 29, 2021 – Dynamic author duo Kirk S. Bowman and Jon R. Wilcox have now released their new book, Reimagining Global Philanthropy: The Community Bank Model of Social Development. This new book shares their unique vision of a socially transformative approach to philanthropy that truly empowers communities and makes a lasting impact. According to the authors, philanthropic efforts launched by the Western world to help other countries often do more harm than good.
Reimagining Global Philanthropy introduces readers to the community bank model of social development in a highly comprehensive manner. Kirk Bowman, a progressive professor and Jon Wilcox, a conservative banker, both put decades’ worth of experience and knowledge together to create a philanthropic model that helps communities rise from the ground up and create large-scale representation and progress by the way of local leaders. Instead of donating to organizations or supporting business start-ups that may or may not succeed in the distant future, the community bank model of social development empowers local leaders from marginalized communities to start the rise from within with help from external sources. The duo has tested this model with various communities in Brazil and saw groundbreaking results when the people themselves were given the opportunity to grow, innovate, and thrive.
Kirk Bowman has lent expertise for many years as a professor in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at the Georgia Institute of Technology. His work largely focuses on the cultural juxtapositions between the United States and other nations. With his previous works discussing the political advancements of Latin America and what the U.S. can adapt from them, his latest work, in partnership with Jon Wilcox, discusses the loopholes in the America’s philanthropic culture and how people/organizations from the West can learn make a real, lasting impact.
Jon Wilcox is a highly coveted banker with a commendable track record. Having co-founded the California Republic Bancorp, he also served as the organization’s President, Director and CEO. His financial expertise, paired with the societal wherewithal of Kirk Bowman, has led to the creation of the highly effective community bank model of philanthropy. With this new book, the duo’s objective is to reach a large demographic of American readers and enlighten them to realign their perspective on philanthropy.
