The Hong Kong ICT Awards is an annual awards presentation ceremony that aims to recognise and promote achievements in the fields of communications and information technology.

By rewarding pioneers of innovative information and communications technology inventions and applications, The Hong Kong ICT Awards helps to inspire modernisation and excellence among Hong Kong’s ICT talent.

“The Hong Kong ICT Awards 2021 presentation ceremony was held on 29 November 2021 and hosted by Hong Kong’s Financial Secretary, Mr. Paul Chan,” says Nicole Assion of the European News Network.

“Now in its 15th year, the ICT Awards received a record-breaking 2,160 applications, with the number of entries in the Student Innovation Category having almost tripled from some 570 in 2017 to more than 1,600 this year, thanks to the ongoing emphasis on STEM education.”

“According to Mr. Paul Chan, Hong Kong is on the cusp of a golden era for IT development. He encouraged I&T elites and start-ups to seize the ample opportunities set to make Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area an increasingly important player in the global economy.”

There were eight categories under the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2021 – Digital Entertainment, FinTech, ICT Start-up, Smart Business, Smart Living, Smart Mobility, Smart People, and Student Innovation.

There was one Grand Award in each category plus an Award of the Year, selected from the eight Grand Awards by the Grand Judging Panel and presented to the Immigration Department.

The winning team outclassed seven other Grand Award category winners with its innovative entry Connecting the Globe with Advanced Technology: Next Generation Electronic Passport System.

“This annual signature event in the local ICT industry calendar not only recognises exceptional achievements in communications and information technology, it also promotes the winning products into international markets.”

“As the Chairman of the Grand Judging Panel, Professor Wei Shyy said, ‘My fellow judges and I were overwhelmed by the ingenuity with which this year’s awardees have leveraged their expertise in transforming market needs and trends into user-friendly technological leaps,” concludes Nicole.
