Austin, TX, USA – Blixel, a Black-owned tech startup, announces the launch of their new stock media platform set to turn the industry on its head. Their innovative marketplace focuses on inclusive stock media powered by diverse creators. It features videos, images, and illustrations of people with disabilities, people of color, and people who identify as LGBTQ+.
“Traditional media often overlooks these communities, or even worse, negatively portrays them,” says Nayyir Shareef, CEO and Co-founder of Blixel. “People expect the media to reflect the world around them, to reflect the people they see in their daily lives.”
Blixel is the brainchild of Nayyir Shareef, a marketer by trade with over a decade of experience working with high profile clients. Nayyir came up with the idea when his client needed a video clip of a Black woman on a horse for a campaign. He looked for hours but came up empty. It dawned on Nayyir that other people, just like him, need inclusive stock media. And that gave birth to Blixel. Nayyir brought Cleopatra Wise on board as Co-founder and COO. Cleopatra brings international expertise and extensive operations and management experience to Blixel. She is the right person to advance its mission to pioneer representation in stock media.
“It’s exciting to see the overwhelming response from customers and creators, alike,” notes Cleopatra. “People are looking for inclusive stock media and we are stepping in to fulfill that need. Our customers range from the student who needs an image for a report to an agency looking for the perfect footage for a campaign.”
Blixel is the one-stop-shop for inclusive stock media. The platform is user-friendly and easy to navigate. It features high-quality videos, images, and illustrations of people with disabilities, people of color, and people who identify as LGBTQ+ in normal, everyday situations. Creators from those communities power the Blixel marketplace. Thus, offering its customers stock media that is authentic and diverse.
Blixel amplifies and supports creators from diverse and marginalized communities. Blixel engages creators through community groups and conversations on representation in the media. It also works with partners to provide resources and opportunities for creators.
The marketplace itself provides a platform for creators to promote their work. Each creator has their own personalized store on the Blixel marketplace. Blixel protects their content’s copyright through blockchain technology. Thus, providing creators with protection against creator theft.
Blixel will release a series of new features for both its users and creators this quarter.
“We started Blixel to fill the void left by traditional stock media platforms. And we will use our platform to create a more inclusive media landscape,” says Nayyir.
