He Chao of Airdoc: The epidemic reshapes consumers’ digital medical needs

On January 20th, the 5th Annual Financial Forum, co-sponsored by S&P Global and Stanford GSB of Hong Kong, was held online. The theme of this forum is “The Asian consumer in a changing economic environment”. Leaders from the fields of medical health, sustainable development, science and technology, etc. attend the forum to discuss the development and changes that are reshaping the expectations and demands of Asian consumers.

COVID-19 epidemic has brought huge variables to all walks of life, especially the medical and health industry. In the round-table forum with the theme of “Health/Wellness and the Consumer”, Dr. He Chao, Chief Technology Officer of Airdoc, said: “After the epidemic, people’s demand for healthy consumption, especially in the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases and health management, is increasing day by day. People also pay more attention to and follow the advice of experts and artificial intelligence technology on lifestyle based on multimodal data and big data.”

In the post-epidemic era, on the one hand, people pay more attention to quality when choosing consumer products and services, and the products and services they want to obtain are healthy, safe and responsible; On the other hand, from the point of view of consumption process, people are more inclined to choose simple and efficient products, which are fast and non-contact.

Digital medical care just meets the needs of consumers in these two aspects. According to reports, the retina is the only part of the whole body where blood vessels and nerves can be directly observed non-invasively. Airdoc technology used AI to deeply learn millions of retinal photos, which were double-blind cross-labeled by hundreds of experts around the world, and finally developed an artificial intelligence retinal health risk assessment system through massive sample learning and precise algorithm analysis. At present, its products have been able to identify 55 health risks within one minute.

“The new screening technology for chronic diseases based on retinal images has good generalization performance and can serve patients or users of different races, regions, ages and genders.” Dr. He Chao said. The 14th Five-Year National Eye Health Plan recently released by the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China pointed out that it is necessary to use information technology to promote the extension of high-quality ophthalmic medical resources to the grassroots level. “I believe that in the next few years, China’s medical AI will play an important role in promoting the sinking of high-quality medical resources and the equalization of primary health care services.”
