Recently, the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone made an appearance at the world’s famous Times Square in New York. China’s only medical pilot zone was showcased at New York’s Times Square jumbotrons. In the promotion, the key features of Hainan’s Free Trade Port were highlighted and companies were invited to visit Boao Lecheng for cooperation and patients for receiving health care.
The Boao Lecheng Pilot Zone is granted specific policies entailing that FDA licensed or CE marked pharmaceuticals and medical devices may be used in the Pilot Zone after a relatively short procedure.At present, 20 medical institutions are in operation in the Pilot Zone and more than 10 are under construction.
Real-world data (RWD) research is one of the most significant institutional innovations in Hainan Province. The unique licensing policy for urgently needed drugs and medical devices makes Boao Lecheng an important trial location for national medical regulators to carry out real-world data (RWD）research and application. Presently, a total of 9 drugs and 14 medical devices are in a real-world data application process. Until so far, the RWD-process in Boao Lecheng achieved already a number of significant breakthroughs by registration in Chinese Mainland of innovative medical products.
Boao Lecheng cooperates closely with the top 30 multinational pharmaceutical and medical device companies in the world. Until so far more than 200 pharmaceutical products and medical devices have been introduced in Boao Lecheng.
