United Games expands to new markets – attracting Asia and Pacific Gamers

As digital gaming has become a global business, game developers are looking to capture new markets. This has led to an increase in the development of games designed for players in different parts of the world. While many games are designed for Western audiences, game developers are now also taking into account players’ preferences and cultural norms in other regions.

One of the most popular games globally, Candy Crush, was developed by an English studio, but it has been downloaded more than 500 million times in China. This is because the game was designed specifically for a Chinese audience, with different gameplay mechanics and graphics tailored to the country’s cultural norms.

While Western developers still dominate the majority of the global digital gaming market, it is clear that there is a growing demand for games from other parts of the world. As the industry continues to grow, we can expect to see even more games designed specifically for different regions.

Australian Video Game Industry

The Australian video game development industry doubled its revenue to $226 million since 2016, according to results from the 2021 Australian Game Development Survey.

This industry-wide study, conducted by the Interactive Games & Entertainment Association (iGEA) and supported by Screen Australia, shows that the local development scene has gone from strength to strength.

“It’s fantastic to see the Australian video game development industry continue to grow rapidly, ” said Ron Curry, CEO of the iGEA.

“The industry has now more than doubled in size since we started measuring it back in 2016, and there are now over 2,000 full-time equivalent employees working in the sector. This is a testament to the incredible talent and creativity of the people working in this industry .”

Australian games are on the rise in popularity worldwide, capturing awards and drawing attention. There is a thriving domestic game market in Australia, which is part of the reason they have such a large gaming community. The local industry spent A$3.6 billion on games in 2019, making them the ideal testing ground.
