Okay, So What Is Pedal Assist?
Hovsco’s bikes are all equipped with electric motors. Riding will be more attractive. Once activated, riders will find pedal travel easier. That’s what pedal assist does. All Hovsco ebikes have an easy-to-use display on the left handlebar. Using the up and down arrows, the rider can control how much power is sent to the pedals (actually the wheels, but the pedals are where the rider feels it). Start with a low setting, like level 1, so it feels like being guided by a steady hand. Once riders get used to it, try a higher setting, which will give the rider a little help by putting a lot of power (up to 750 watts in the U.S. — equivalent to 1 horsepower) after each stroke. The beauty of this is that one can choose the amount of juice from the motor. The e-bike stops working when the rider stops pedaling, so there’s no need to worry about losing control.
How Does It Work?
Pedal assist uses a cadence sensor built into the drivetrain. The sensor detects when the rider is revolving the pedals and signals the electric motor to provide the level of pedal assistance selected by the rider.
What About The Throttle?
Pedal assist is just the beginning. Hovsco’s ebikes (in the U.S. and Canada) all have a throttle on the right handlebar, allowing the rider to move without pedaling. By turning the gas pedal, it is possible to ride the bike without pedaling. Use this if the rider needs to get to 20 mph fast, or if the rider’s legs get tired after a long day of pedaling.
