Art of Living Foundation Co-Hosts Panel on Mental Health

Washington, D.C. event during humanitarian Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s U.S. tour.

Washington, D.C. – As the youth mental health crisis continues to grow in the United States, a group of experts are planning to address the topic at an upcoming event in the nation’s capital. On May 6, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at George Washington University’s Milken Institute School of Public Health. humanitarian and founder of The Art of Living Foundation Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, will join U.S. Surgeon General Vice Admiral Vivek Murthy, MD, MBA and the founder of Stanford University’s Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE), Dr. James R. Doty on a panel discussion about mental health and the proven practices to foster youth excellence, happiness and wellness.

“Mental health has become one of the biggest issues on the planet today,” says Gurudev. “We all have a responsibility to make sure that meditation and breathwork are available to everyone. Those who have found peace within must share it with everybody.”

“One of the greatest needs today is to address the youth mental health crisis…” says Dr. Doty.

The event will also spotlight research conducted by Dr. Seppälä and Yale University regarding Gurudev’s SKY Breath Meditation and its application for youth mental health. Gurudev introduced SKY Breath Meditation to the world in 1981. Since then, millions across 156 countries have learned to access the present moment and tap into one’s inner happiness and freedom. In a recent Yale study, SKY showed the greatest impact on wellbeing benefiting six outcomes: depression, stress, mental health, mindfulness, positive affect, and social connectedness.

The “Social Connection, Compassion and Youth Mental Health” in-person panel event is co-hosted by the George Washington University’s Milken Institute School of Public Health and Center of Excellence in Maternal & Child Health Care; Stanford University’s Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE); and the Art of Living Foundation.
