Mazen Sirwan Barzani, also known as Mano, demonstrates his exemplary skill in capturing the raw beauty of nature and urban vistas using only his mobile phone’s camera. His works boast an exquisite quality akin to high-definition wallpaper images and postcard photographs.
Growing up in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, Mano fell in love with his idyllic home country and has taken to photography to capture its sceneries. Over the next eight years, he has amassed a collection that generously pays homage to Kurdistan’s distinctive charm.
Among Mano’s subjects are the sea of clouds atop Mount Korek, the rock formations of Shreen Mountain, the snow-capped slopes of Hassan Bag Mountain, the flora and landscapes of the rural areas, and the summer, autumn, and winter horizons across the region.
Mano also spotlights scenes around the bustling capital city of Erbil, the historic village of Barzan, and the sprawling town of Ninawa.
However, his oeuvre does not stop there. Mano has also toured many parts of the world and has proven to have a keen eye for diverse vistas laid before him. Scenes such as the pyramids and archeological site of Teotihuacan in Mexico; the sunset in Havana, Cuba; and the tropical foods of Saint Kitts and Nevis also earn spots in his gallery.
Mano has also documented his travels around the US through snapshots of New York’s Central Park, the Manhattan cityscape from the viewpoint of the Empire State Building, urban sights across Texas, the Golden Gate Bridge and other architectural landmarks on the west coast, and Miami Beach on the southeastern end.
Furthermore, he has taken captivating mementos across Europe. The historic Edinburgh Castle of Scotland, the ancient Colosseum in Rome, the streets of London, the city of Paris, and the slopes of Mont Blanc in the Alps are also among his muses.
Mano’s collection is a visual narrative of a traveler with an insatiable hunger for adventure and the resourcefulness of a mobile user.
