Former Elvis Bay Area Cop Pens Crime Prevention Guide

Novato, CA – A surge in crime combined with a frequently slow police response inspired local Novato resident, ret. Chief William G. Palmini, Jr., to apply his more than 50 years of experience in law enforcement to help residents protect themselves from becoming victims of crime. The result is a new crime prevention guide, Know What Cops Know.  Palmini first earned fame in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond, as the singing cop, “Elvis the Lawman,” in a teen driver program funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, (NHTSA), through the California Office of Traffic Safety, (OTS). He received numerous awards including the J. Stannard Baker Award, the DEA Enrique Camerena Award, and an Honorary Gold Record from the Recording Industry of America, (RIAA).

Know What Cops Know is designed to teach readers to think like a cop in identifying potential law-breaking situations. It contains a spectrum of information and advice, covering a wide range of topics that include scams, identity theft, burglaries, date rape, child safety, and mass shootings. It also offers advice on what to do in the event the reader or their loved one becomes a victim of crime.

His coauthor, Tanya Chalupa, currently resides in Virginia, but was the force behind California’s Child Seat Restraint Law and wrote the grants featuring Palmini as a spokesperson in the teen driver program. They also collaborated on true crime books based on Palmini’s high profile cases: Murder on the Rails, and A Rookie Cop Vs. the West Coast Mafia. Chalupa also has a fiction with a Ukrainian twist, East Bay Murders, based on a true crime that Palmini investigated.
