Kentucky Master Conservationist launches Kickstarter campaign aimed toward the restoration of America’s Prairies

Blue Grass Grounds is a conservation project that is committed to restoring the native natural grassland and the rich biodiversity of the Midwest Prairie.

Once the pride of the Midwest, the historically lush Prairie is now left with just 1% of native pre-settlement grassland. Disappearing grasslands have further led to the extinction of multiple species, thereby creating a terrible imbalance in the natural ecosystem. But, here comes a ray of hope – a visionary Kentucky-based Master Conservationist and farmer, Jamie White, is aimed to bring back the former glory and balance in the Prairie. He has recently launched a campaign on Kickstarter, Blue Grass Grounds, that aims to convert Jamie’s 200 acres of farmland into a diversified ecosystem of natural grasslands.

The campaign is geared to raise around $20,000 by July 7, 2022.

To implement the first step of his Prairie restoration mission, Jamie needs support from 200 eco-conscious individuals who will be willing to individually micro lease as well as protect 1 acre of Prairie grassland for a nominal sum of $30 a month.

He will start the restoration endeavor with his Kentucky farms as a proof of concept. Based on the progress meter of the initial conservation efforts, the Master Conservationist will expand the project by leasing and conserving grasslands on private Prairie lands.

“If Africa has Savanna, the USA has the lush green Prairie. But, unfortunately, the natural splendor and rich biodiversity of our Midwest grasslands are fast disappearing today due to unmindful human land-use activities. For years, most of the plants, insects, and animal species of the area were forced to survive on the fringes. But, recently, due to the drastic rise in residential land development and mono-cropping, that subpar habitat is also on the verge of extinction. We cannot let it continue and this is where Blue Grass Grounds comes to help”, stated Jamie.

At Blue Grass Grounds, the goal is to create a diversified natural ecosystem by restoring the soil microbiome to its natural condition. Jamie plans to deploy a team of experienced farmers who are familiar with the land and passionate about conserving the Prairie, and who are equipped with the necessary equipment.

“The Blue Grass Grounds are designed to strategically link prairie lands in a way that will help to develop a convenient migration path for insects, small mammals, and birds. We are looking towards a welcome resurgence of wildlife that will bring back the endangered pollinators and beneficial insects in the grasslands. Alongside, our goal is to absorb carbon from the atmosphere and put it back into the soil. To make all these happen, we need backup from fellow conservationists that will enable us to rent private land as well as employ farmers to actively contribute to our restoration efforts- thus, this Kickstarter campaign. Your generous support will enable us to bring the Prairie back to life, restore the natural biodiversity, and save the planet.”

Backers will be rewarded with exclusive Kickstarter discounts on Restoring Prairie Monthly subscription. To show your support for the campaign, please visit Kickstarter.
