Mental Health Nurse Launches a Self-Help Memoir, The Zen of Learning to Ride a Motorcycle

Leslie Reyes shares how a motorcycle helped her learn the meaning of Zen in her book.

Leslie Reyes, a psychiatric nurse and a motorcycle enthusiast, shares eye-opening insights on trauma and overcoming fear in her debut book, The Zen of Learning to Ride a Motorcycle. Using the analogy of learning to ride a motorcycle, Reyes takes readers on a journey of relatable life experiences, its highs and lows, while expertly weaving the lessons she learned along the way.

“I never expected a motorcycle would one day be the guru I needed to change my life habits and finally learn to trust myself when I began to practice the Zen principle – How a person does one thing is how a person does everything,” says Reyes.

Scarred by her mother’s schizophrenia, Reyes spent most of her life saddled with fears and stifling emotional pain. It was only at the age of 50 did she find the courage to confront her fears, starting with learning how to ride a motorcycle.

The book doesn’t shy away from the uncomfortable truths of dealing with trauma and mental health struggles. Reyes vividly renders her experiences from shifting her gears to face her fears and finding healing as she steers her life in the direction she wants.

In The Zen of Learning to Ride a Motorcycle, landscapes, memories, and life lessons seamlessly merge, empowering readers to ponder their lives and start moving into a place of fulfillment and Zen.

Reyes’ book is available in paperback and E-book at Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Kindle, and everywhere books are sold.
