The Flower Tower is an 18-foot tall sculpture of bicycles and flower baskets that will be erected in Houston, Texas to pay homage to the legendary Cleveland ‘Flower Man’ Turner. Born in 1943 and died in 2013, the Flower Man is still remembered in Houston as a local hero when it comes to art and life. The tower will feature artwork of local artists and it will be erected where Turners’ home once stood. Moreover, it will comprise of 10 bicycles and 20 flower baskets, along with several plants and blooms.
“Cleveland Turner was an incomparable artist in Houston’s historic Third Ward and this monument is inspired by his unique approach to life and art.” Said Phillip Pyle, II, while introducing this project to the Kickstarter community. “This 18-foot tall sculpture of bicycles, plants and flowers in the middle of a landscaped garden featuring original artwork from local artists in the heart of Third Ward.” The Houston artist added. During his lifetime, the flower man used to collect discarded items on his bicycle rides and turned them into art, which was admirable.
