Filmmaker’s Driving Ambition To Show How Cars Transform Lives

A NORTH CAROLINA filmmaker is making it his life’s work to tell and share the stories of the people whose passion for all things automobile has turned their lives around.

Louis Vitiello Jr. is the brains behind Real Ridez, the hit online platform which has featured some of the most inspiring tales of cars and communities to come out of the NC region in recent years.

From the penniless Mexican immigrant, who created a successful business and car club and then built a car for a friend suffering from cancer, to a former drug dealer whose love of cars helped him turn his life around, Louis’ intimate films show how cars plus people power change communities.

In his most recent film fans get to hear the story of Michael Tillett whose crowd-funded restoration of a 1985 Chevy Monte Carlo became a community project that led to a car festival which has raised more than $100,000 for youth programs in the Outer Banks.

Louis explained the motivation behind Real Ridez and the films he lovingly produces, at his own expense.

He said: “It’s an absolute passion of mine, to see how something as simple as a car has the power to change lives. Really the car is just the vehicle, if you’ll excuse the pun, for the change that comes into people’s lives when they start to work for something bigger than themselves.

“Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty of car geekery in my films, but the people are the real stars. I have stories about people achieving their dreams, being a woman in a male-dominated culture, and more. These stories cover diversity, racism, defeating all odds, overcoming life struggles, and more. My content goes beyond the car. It touches the soul of the person I am interviewing.”

Real Ridez currently has over 5,000 subscribers on YouTube and is growing fast with each new film reaching a wider and wider audience.

The channel features classic cars, restomods, supercars, sports cars, one-off builds, and much more.

Louis added: “The mainstream media can be full of such stories of doom and gloom, but right here in North Carolina people are doing such wonderful things to be a positive force in their communities, that’s why I make these films – to show that there’s a lot of heart, and horsepower, in our towns and cities!”
