Trash Cat Cosmetics Combines Love of Wildlife & Make-Up

The Company Offers Quality Cosmetics & Supports Wildlife Rehabilitators Across The US

Sometimes, the best things happen when two passions collide.

Such seems to be the case with Tina K. Davis, a Texas-based wildlife lover who recently launched her own line of cosmetics. Called Trash Cat Cosmetics, the brand is both inspired by and provides support to opossums and their rehabilitators across the United States. It aims to provide a clean, cruelty-free, vegan product that embodies customers’ sassy side and gives peace of mind while consciously supporting wildlife.

Trash Cat Cosmetics combines two of Tina’s passions: make-up and taking care of opossums.

The business has its origins during the pandemic. “We all know about 2020 and how our worlds turned upside down. What I didn’t expect was to be locked down with nine opossums and the number to continue growing,” said Tina, who struggled to fund her opossum rehabilitation efforts. “I had to learn to first, keep them alive. Next, keep myself alive. Finally, to figure out what to do with them since more and more kept being found.”

Despite the challenge, Tina pushed on, choosing to help animals, and become a full-fledged wildlife rehabber. “I did the ‘logical’ thing,” she explained. “I took them all in, became a wildlife rehabber, and decided that I was now the Opossum Queen.”

While thinking of a way to support her new situation financially, she came up with the idea for Trash Cat Cosmetics. “There are no words to describe my love for make-up. Obsessed may be a start but probably not strong enough,” Tina said. “I built an arsenal of cosmetics. Cabinets and drawers. Stockpiling and using everything new, even if just to test it for my friends.”

Other than practically hoarding it, Tina realized there was no real hobby or benefit to that obsession. “It wasn’t an outlet or a way to create a following on videos. I wasn’t interested in an MLM version of selling it. I really just loved it and that was that.”

When she started adopting opossums, however, that changed. Tina made use of her make-up obsession to help her other passion. In turn, she let her products be inspired by the opossums’ “trashy” reputation. The result was curating a line of cosmetics that was vegan, cruelty-free, and supportive of brash and bold styles like rockabilly, 50’s pin-up, 40’s glam, and gothabilly.

After just launching in August 2022, Trash Cat Cosmetics already boasts an extensive collection of products, categorized on its website under Eyes, Brows, Face, and Lips – each of which contains dozens of offers in their own subcategories. Aside from the actual make-up, the company also offers skincare products and merchandise.

How does purchasing cosmetics help opossums? Twenty percent of all profits are donated to Petri’s Place Corp. A non-profit (501c3) organization whose mission is to provide rehabilitation and education programs dedicated to the support of helping native wildlife thrive.
