Sutton Coldfield, in the city of Birmingham, in the West Midlands of England is the home of a unique annual youth charity event called rough sleeping. It is a weeklong event designed to highlight homelessness and raise money for the cause. The Sleep Easy event is sponsored by Sutton Coldfield YMCA and held at the Clifton Road Youth Centre.
Local dignitaries will be attending the event including the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Birmingham, Jack Dromey, Sutton MP Andrew Mitchell and his Erdington counterpart as well as Councillor Mike Leddy and his wife Pauline. Some ex-professional footballers from the area may also be taking part in the event and organizers will announce them when they receive confirmation.
Cardboard boxes will be provided as the YMCA looks to raise money to support all four wards of Sutton. More than 100 participants, young and old, are already scheduled to be sleeping out at the 2014 Sleep Easy. Anyone is welcome to attend but call ahead at 0121 354 5614 for more information and to reserve your cardboard box.
“There will be a food in the evening, hot drinks available during the night. As well as plenty of activities and games to keep us warm. Following on from the fun and success of the 2013 Sleep Easy in March, we are expecting this to be our biggest event yet,” said Sinead Frith, on behalf of Sutton’s YMCA. There is still plenty of time for businesses, schools, individuals and families to support the event. Call 0121 354 5614 for more information on taking part or sponsoring someone a box.
