WALLA WALLA, Washington – January 11, 2016 – Lagana Cellars, a small, wonderful Washington winery, recently announced their plan to expand! They are already producing and selling premium Washington wines in the Walla Walla Valley, but the time has come to expand into new markets! Lagana Cellars was founded in 2013 by their winemaker, Jason Fox, a Midwesterner, who decided to ditch Indiana and move to Washington State. After completing a degree in Enology and Viticulture (winemaking and grape growing), and with a passion for crafting white wines, he started the white wine focused boutique winery with the help of many in the local community.
These locals helped to source equipment, source grapes, and secure a location for production. Fast forward to 2016, and they now have completed three vintages of wines: Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Roussanne, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon (new this year!), Cabernet Franc (new this year!), and Carmenere (new this year!). Also new to the beginning of the third year is the expansion of Lagana Cellars into a tasting room space and more shipping opportunities. However, alcohol is heavily regulated, and every state in America has differing and separate laws.
So, in order to truly expand Lagana Cellars, they launched this Kickstarter campaign. The goal of this project is to raise $5,000 by January 31, 2016. The goal of this Kickstarter campaign is to expand distribution and direct shipping into Illinois and Indiana, which will get their wines into restaurants, wine shops, and consumer’s hands back where Fox lived for nearly three decades. Another goal is to increase advertisement locally to better draw people into the Walla Walla Valley and Lagana Cellars. World class wines are made all over Washington, but most people remain fixated on the wines of California and those priced under $10, especially in regions of the country that are not wine regions. The world of premium and above wines is a large community, but they cater to a much smaller consumer base, specifically restaurants, specialty shops, and wine aficionados.
The last of the goals is the most important! As a small winery grows in production and expands, the costs of expansion are not readily attainable through commercial lending. To establish itself and produce the first vintage, a new venture will cost more than $100,000 before it can be sold to the public. Then, the next year adds onto that debt (especially when making red wines), and by the third year, the banks are looking to have their money back, but the winery just started selling their full catalog and cannot easily come up with the liquid capital. Fruit bills are due a month after delivery, which means 1.) a large payment is due to the growers and 2.) the slow season in the tasting room has begun (at least in WA state)! This campaign will pay off some of those fruit payment, help acquire licenses in IL and IN, and pay for advertisement in the region around Walla Walla.
To help this small winery in Washington expand, please visit the Kickstarter campaign or click here. Perks will be delivered between January 2016 and September 2016.
Please keep in mind this is an “all-or-nothing” deal, which means if the campaign does not reach the funding goal then the project cannot move forward. So know that any amount given can make a difference, and this is an incredible opportunity to be a part of a special campaign! Help Lagana Cellars reach the goal by sharing this on Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks. The more people know about this, the more support the campaign will receive.
