AAP backstabbed victims of 1984 anti Sikh Carnage: Shiromani Akali Dal

The Shiromani Akali Dal said here today that Aam Aadmi Party had backstabbed the victims of 1984 Anti Sikh carnage by playing politics over the biggest human rights violation in the history.

Dr. Dajit Singh Cheema, Education Minister and Spokesman, Shiromani Akali Dal today questioned: “How could such a sensitive file of 1984 riot victims go missing for the past 10 months? As chief minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal is solely responsible for the missing file and owes an explanation to the Sikh community the world over for complete inaction for almost one year after he took over as CM.” Even if the said file is traced mysteriously now, Kejriwal can’t absolve himself of inaction for one year in this case.

Dr. Cheema said that it was shocking to hear that a file related to the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has gone missing for the last ten months with none even aware of it. It has been over 31 years now and the 1984 riot victims are still waiting for Justice. Who is responsible for giving justice to the victims? Where Are the Human Rights Activists?  Why is it that the biggest tragedy of gross Human Rights violations not debated by popular TV Channels? Who is playing politics over these deaths? First it was Congress and now Aam Aadmi Party.

Kejriwal has not done anything to get justice for the victims. Kejriwal is working on the same pattern as Congress did. Aam Aadmi Party and Kejriwal had raised high hopes for Sikhs with its promise that perpetrators of the genocide would be brought to book. But all they get is complete inaction.

“The Aam Aadmi party had promised fast-track justice to the riot victims, who had been waiting for more than 31 years after the carnage on the Capital’s streets. The Special Investigation Team was constituted for re-investigation into the 1984 riot cases, mainly in Delhi and other states, by the Union Home Ministry in February last year. The newly constituted three-member SIT was also empowered to examine fresh evidence in cases, which had been closed. The SIT had been given powers to look into all serious criminal cases relating to the riots, examine evidence and even re-open cases and file charge-sheets in the courts concerned. The SIT had been given six months to complete its work, including filing charge-sheets in over three decades old cases,” said Dr. Cheema.

The file related to the constitution of a Special Investigation Team to probe the 1984 anti-Sikh carnage was last marked to the then Delhi Home Minister Jitender Singh Tomar, but has been untraceable since then. This could jeopardize the SIT investigation into the riots and result in a further delay in the crucial probe.

?After attempts to find the missing file failed, deputy secretary (Home) Ashish Kumar issued a circular to all departments on January 8, asking all the concerned officers to “kindly look into their respective departments” and see if the file could be found and “kindly return to the home department.” The circular, signed by Kumar on January 7, specified that the same was being issued with prior approval of the competent authority. According to a copy of the circular: “It is to bring to the notice of all those concerned that a file (no. 10/R – 68/01/2014/HP-II bearing CD no. 001315833) regarding the constitution of Special Investigation Team (1984 Riots), pertaining to Home-II Branch, was marked to then home minister on March 16, 2015, after which said file is not traceable.”
