LOS ANGELES, CA – 12 Jan, 2017 – RL Leaders announced today that national security expert Wendy R. Anderson has joined the company as the Managing Director – West Coast. She will lead operations that connect the most creative minds from the entertainment industry and emerging technology experts to national security professionals, to apply innovative solutions to our nation’s most pressing security challenges.
“There is no greater exemplar of the power for good that creativity offers the national security community than Wendy Anderson,” said RL Leaders founder John Rogers. “The depth of her experience on national security issues, combined with her successes in, and ties to, the entertainment industry, make her a natural fit for our team. We are absolutely thrilled to have her.”
Anderson brings more than 20 years’ experience in defense, foreign policy, homeland security, and intelligence to RL Leaders. For nearly 15 years, Anderson served in a variety of senior roles in government, both on Capitol Hill and in the Obama Administration. Between 2004 and 2010, she managed the international security portfolio for the US Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and worked for several US Senators on intelligence, foreign and defense affairs, and veterans’ issues. Between 2010 and 2015, Anderson served as Deputy Chief of Staff to Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel and Chief of Staff to then-Deputy Secretary of Defense Ash Carter (currently Secretary of Defense), as well as the Chief of Staff to Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker. While at the Defense Department, Anderson was twice awarded the Department of Defense medal for Distinguished Public Service and, in 2014, was described by The National Journal as one of the “25 Women Who Shape National Policy,” one of just five women singled out nationwide for her leadership in defense.
Since leaving the Obama Administration, Anderson became a Partner in the LA-based media company, Strong Eagle Media (SEM), which produces films highlighting stories of American service members deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. She has two Executive Producer credits to her name: Citizen Soldier, an award-winning immersive documentary highlighting the unprecedented role the National Guard has played in the post-9/11 wars (August 2016), and Danger Close, a film that addresses the central role of Special Ops in those wars (to be released this spring). She is an adjunct Senior Fellow of the Military, Veterans, and Society Program at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR).
Anderson serves on the Board of Advisors of Team Rubicon Global and the Boards of both the Bentonville and San Diego International Film Festivals. She is also a member of the Board of Trustees at her alma mater, Hendrix College. She is a graduate of both Harvard and Columbia Universities.
“The complex challenges of our time require us to identify, approach, and solve problems differently than we ever have before,” Anderson said. “RL Leaders has connected influential national security officials with emerging technologies and Hollywood’s most inventive minds for more than a decade. This engagement has led to the development of a number of enduring solutions for a big swath of the national security community. I am honored to have this opportunity to continue to serve.”
